The island of Kos brings together enchanting natural wonders, with a one-of-a-kind melting pot of ancient cultures. It is the crossroads of four ancient civilisations – Greek, Roman, Genoese and Ottoman – which is evident across the island. It is also birthplace of wellness and the home of the storied Hippocrates, providing a unique charm that soothes the soul in every corner of the island. Walk across the wooden walkways to our private beach to explore the beaches and waters of the island, or venture further inland with our programme of activities, both at the hotel and further afield.
Set off on a trail ride to explore the natural landscapes of Kos, along the wild and windswept northern shore. You’ll see the rolling dunes along the beach and pass through fields by the Salt Lake, home to flamingos at various times of the year. At tranquil tides you may even take your horse into the water.
A visit to the Greek Islands wouldn’t be complete without exploring a few of its many isles by boat. Starting off from Kos, you can visit three islands in one day, from the dramatic Kalymnos to uninhabited Plati and quaint Pserimos where you can stop at a coastal taverna.
The hiking trail to the 846-metre Khristos peak of Mount Dikeos starts from the mountainside village of Zia. The steep climb will take about two hours, but the views are worth the effort. A white-washed chapel crowns the top along with panoramic views across to Turkey and the Greek Dodecanese isles.
The ruins of the Asklepeion are one of the world’s first wellness centres, and one of Greece’s longest-surviving archaeological sites. The ancients came here to worship the god Asklepeius, the god of Healing, and the temple became a facility for wellness under the guidance of Hippocrates – the founder of modern medicine – himself.
Authentic produce crafted on the island of Kos is a labour of love, often passed along families for generations. The island produces specialist wine and olive oil that you are invited to experience and taste for yourself. A family-run vineyard offers unique local wines for tasting, while the olive plantation offers guided tours and tastings of its freshly brewed oil.
Due to its reliable northern wind, Kos is known as a mecca for watersports enthusiasts. OKU Kos is located on the perfect shore to take advantage of this. Surf the waves on the hotel’s paddle boards, or head next door for a lesson or course in windsurfing, kitesurfing or sailing.
