Respecting our slow living philosophy, at OKU we are committed to sustainability and focus on connection and preservation of the world and the community. Our ethos prioritises conscious tourism, which informs every decision that we make within our hotels, with the aim of reducing our impact on the planet and contributing positively to the local environment.
Respecting the earth’s precious resources, we implement techniques for energy conservation and water preservation at our hotels from build to operations. State-of-the-art sensors, cogeneration equipment, solar power, modern irrigation and water diversion systems are just some of the technology that we have invested in to reduce our footprint.
Each of our hotels works with the local councils to dispose of waste responsibly, and have improved the waste management and recycling facilities on the islands in which we are based. We scrutinise our supply chain to support our suppliers in plastic-free delivery options where possible, and look to to reduce travel miles of necessary equipment. In the kitchens we prioritise locally-sourced ingredients to minimise environmental impact, and with the added benefit of supporting local farmers and businesses. At OKU Ibiza, we do so in consultation with the Ibiza Preservation Fund.
We prioritise respect for the local environment and culture of our destinations. As such, we seek to enhance their social, economic and environmental positions, through a number of means; from environmental initiatives that protect local wildlife, to improving community infrastructure in collaboration with local municipalities. We champion local heritage wherever possible, seen in the architecture and design of our spaces, and we support local craftsmen, business and people providing career opportunities and authenticity for our guests.
We provide educational and enriching experiences that incorporate guests into our conservation and community support efforts. From beach cleaning initiatives to garden and nature classes, discovery of the local terrain and fauna, e-bike excursions and hands-on workshops that encourage the discovery of local culture and heritage, preserving it for centuries to come.
We collaborate with like-minded partner brands that serve the community and the Earth, as well as charities and institutions in their work. Some of our recent collaborators include the Ibiza Preservation Fund, the Kos refugee hotspot, Considered by Real and Warchild.
